Our offices and labs are based in the Haworth Building, University of Birmingham. The Gupta group is equipped with the following:
- Optical sensing platforms: Interferometric system with electrophoretic sample preparation, diffraction and fabry-perot set-ups, and waveguide instrument
- Characterisation: refractometer, UV-Vis spectrometer
- Microfabrication: digital photomask projector with 10 µm resolution, 405 nm holography system, spin coaters (one with integral 405 nm illumination and nitrogen dust), ozone cleaner, 3D printers, optical microscope
- Sample preparation and synthesis: analytical balance, pH meter, hot plates, stirrers, oven, schlenk line, glove box, rotary vaporator
The work done in the group is supported by the excellent analytical facilities and services, which comprises NMR, chromatography and mass spectrometry. We also work closely with physics workshop, which is managed by Mr Stephen Brookes, and is equipped with state of the art computer controlled 2,3,4 & 5 axis machinery and software as well as a variety of other new technology equipment, including a water jet cutting machine, a laser cutter/engraving machine, a CNC router and a professional 3d printer. Finally, we are located in close proximity to the institute of translational medicine, which provides facilities for small-scale clinical trials, ideally suited to demonstrate the potential of early-stage technologies.
